New Monolith System is frustrating

Please also look into the damage of the other timeliness bosses as well. Thank you.

Wow! Cut & paste that for me. And I got ohk by the boss at level 89 and I was litterally doing almost no damage at all. Didnt even had the time to check if there was a mechanic to actually do damage to the boss. I guess i’ll try it back eventually. But I like the idea of this endgame mode. Promising.

I’d take PoE style mapworks over this any day. At least then I could fight content that is on my level whenever I want to.

Guys this is not the only end-game system the game will have. Comparing the Monolith with the map system of PoE doesn’t really make sense.

Yeah, they should have wiped everything before this patch so that everyone has to play the new mono as it is intended and can’t complain about something that actually won’t happen at release…

I’m not talking for you as I seriously have no clue how your desires could ever be satisfied.

The following things I would define as exciting:

  • new maps
  • added quests
  • permanent character buffs
  • challenging bossfights

It’s not my fault that you just can’t understand that normally it cannot happen that you have to play lvl 55 content with a overleveled char. This is just because the devs implemented a system with a set level difficulty during this testing phase while people leveled their chars in another system before.

Just wipe your chars and you will never ever have this problem. This is something they could have done to serve us the original game experience. They obviously decided against a character wipe with this patch that in result let’s you play lower level content with the characters and gear you were allowed to keep.

I can handle this little inconvenience, that will never occur to a new player that starts now.

I havent tried the new monolith yet. But can I clarify, once I unlocked higher level monoliths, I permanently unlock them? And can always start at the higher level monoliths?

Yep this is the key question. Once I am out of the level 55 (and possibly the next one) I never want to see them again. That said I gather there may be cause to rerun low level ones to get the blessings and drops you want that are exclusive to it? Yuck.

I have also now gone several echoes with only 1 quest popping which I gather is very unlucky and exacerbating the issue. I really think this new Monolith should have been added alongside the old one, but with a different name, rather than replacing it.

One further issue I have is that we have lost the efficient way to level our chars. After the first couple I had got into the habit of doing a very quick levelling regime that involved going straight to Monolith after End of Time (~level 26) then power levelling in there which was MUCH faster than levelling through campaign. Then finishing off campaign later when I could absolutely blast it, just to pick up the remaining Passives points and idol slots.

Now it seems every new character I level will have to go through the campaign in full from start to finish, which is rather tedious after the first couple. Great. :frowning:

The irony. No way I could stand to do that given what I just said above. Levelling new chars without the Monolith to help at level 26 is not something I could stand to do.[quote=“Madriax, post:52, topic:22710”]
Repeating monoliths will become “normal” as the blessing received at the end is a random “pick one from three”. For instance, on lvl 55 mono, you are offered blessings such as “5-15% more chance to find uniques” or “30 to 50% more adored idols drop”

Other blessings for the monos can include such things as increases to drop belts, helmets, gold etc. It is likely that players will do some monos repeatedly to get the blessings they want.

Wait, the blessing are all of the old Diablo-style “Magic find”? Please tell me that is not the case.

New maps I concede are great, though are they procedural yet? Monolith always had the weakness of fixed maps. Quests just made me feel like I was back in the campaign and so far have only added trudging back over an empty map to the mix, so I can’t agree on that one (yet). Buffs and bosses I have yet to see.

Yes, that’s correct.

Once you complete lvl 55 Mono, it opens up 2 new mono areas - but you only get to choose 1.

Options after level 55 are go to level 62 or level 68.

If you take lvl 62, the next one offered on completion is lvl 75.

If you take lvl 68, the next one offered on completion is lvl 80.

AFAIK, you need to do mono 55 at least twice … once to open up 62, 75 … pathway and one to open up 68, 80 … pathway. I assume that lvl 75 will open up lvl 85 and lvl 80 will open up lvl 90 (max).

The maps are not procedural.

The new mono maps use some existing campaign areas that have not been used in monos before, the “old” mono maps from pre 0.7.9 and some completely new, never-before-seen maps (about 6 or so I’ve seen so far).

I see lots of negative comments mainly about not being able to jump into higher levels immediately. I agree 100% with current approach as this wont be an issue on launch. It is my personal choice to play with L88 paladin and not to start with new L1 char. Hence i need to spend time grinding till i open up content at my level. There are 2 things which probably need a bit more consideration

  1. the xp penalty at lower levels is a bit severe. I have done 36 runs (not yet got to end of 2nd island) and i have barely received 20% xp.
  2. the power diff between mobs and end boss is HUGE. On the first island i ran thru with L60 Void Knight without ever dying and got mashed by boss. It is quite a big time loss to do all that (c. 3hrs for me) only to find you need alt set of void armor to defeat that boss ()but once you learn it its fine.

Yeah. Let’s see what it looks like when this us implemented:

This will solve some of the issues.

If they remove the experience penalty for being a higher level than the zone, then why would I farm anywhere above level 53? Anything higher than that will be slower to kill and therefore less XP.

i am not saying remove it just make it a bit less severe. Defn must have penalty so that incentives playing appropriate levels

I’ve only played them with my level 100 Mage, so cannot comment on the XP, but I can see how it would be incredibly frustrating to hit a wall in 0.7.9 that did not exist in 0.7.8

I do think the devs have put in an enormous amount of effort into the new mono system - maps, encounters … “ideas”. They are trying hard to keep everyone happy and balancing will always be an issue in any game at any stage of it’s development … nudge a bit here and a gap opens there. Fix the gap there and another one pops up somewhere else. It’s a never ending firefight.

Please remember that we are still in Early Access and everything could change before release.

Also, please remember that “Just because you’re offended, doesn’t mean you’re right”.

Regarding XP though, many games use a +/- level system … mobs 5 levels below you give less XP than mobs your level and mobs above your level give more.

@Madriax i am perfectly happy where it is hence my opening comment. Just trying to give constructive feedback. I am not complaining just giving an opinion on few areas where a “small” improvement can be made.

If anything, my complaint is not with the maps or monos etc - I like running maps - it would be the huge pool of available stats on items making it almost impossible for a good base blue to drop that you can fracture (haha), or dropping 5,5,5,4 on an item with totally useless rolls.

Item farming/crafting/acquisition is a steep curve.

And when devs removed % set Dodge from Ammys and Relics, every dodge build now has to farm new boots and gloves. No choice.

I can’t imagine the frustration for a 55 lvl char when facing the first timeline boss as +80 lvl chars are oneshotted again and again.
I think there should be a checkpoint after each echo quest at least, to not having to remake 20/30 echos to retry each boss.

And if a lvl 80 char is facing a 55 boss, the boss should be melted by any reasonable builded char. Leave the dificulty for when facing similar level bosses

Sorry for my english

I think it will be nice in case of death not to completely reset timeline, but go back to the first echo after echo with latest quest completed in this time line.
This can make it less frustrating and punishing.
