Captain America Shield Throw META - Last Epoch Build Guide

Thanks for the tips.

I have another noob question, i am at the area to pick a mastery, but I seen the build has all the mastery. How do you unlock more than one mastery? I am confused.

You can only unlock one mastery per character… So chose well…

or just make 3 builds of each class…

Yip.,… on @Llama8 advice I am now using Cinder Song (unique wand) to take advantage of the fire boost… I am ideally trying for an Iron Sceptre but that is going to take luck on a drop/gamble to find one with a decent implicit close to 100% elemental damage.

Oh, and @Llama8 , your suggestion on the Keen idols may be spot on. At the attack speed we are able to get, it procs often (with a 10% idol) and because it syncs with fire and spell and applies at 150% it definitely looks like it is worth the idol space… cant tell if the healing is worth it or if it benefits from my healing boosts, but its promising…

A Divine Sceptre (39-55 adaptive spell damage) might be better than an Iron Scepter (no adaptive spell damage but 5-100% inc elemental damage) if you’re trying to maximise the Eruption damage over the hit damage.

Thanks… anything to widen the search…

Ok… Just completed Monolith Lvl 80 at character level 80.

Lagon was an extended exercise in kiting I dont really want to have to do again. Damage was really low as I dont think the Eruption Node was proccing and the RoS were too far from Lagon to create the ricochet. With the Lunge bugs I could also not tick Initiative so lost that crit boost. Not impossible but not pleasant at all. The empowered lvl 100 Lagon is likely to laugh at the Captain.

Gotta get single target damage up somehow. Strange thing is that echo bosses die in a few seconds and until Lagon, the other MoF bosses were not really a challenge.

Made some interesting changes based on suggestions from Llama8

Nothing concrete yet but its involving swapping passives back and forth to see how its going.

Still fun to play tho…

Single target is always going to be where Shield Throw doesn’t shine compared to AoE.

yes exactly single target damage is a problem with this build. but 'AOE is awesome pretty much melting everything up to wave 100  then it starts getting harder. im sure with perfect gear i can do wave 200+ not sure if more is possible as the damage output isnt that great but its a lot of fun and thats fact XD

thanks again to everyone helped me push this build back for the new patch 0.7.10B

done RANK34 today #4 paladin

Not trying to hijack your thread, but I’am currently trying various Shield Throw centric build inspired by yours, and it works well for me. Was wave 182 on my second attempt while still trying stuff :).

saw your rank  congrats on that
saw you are using Volatile Reversal, never tried this combination looks like it works well for you
i might give it a try too XD

Used it for the attack speed buff on it, didn’t felt that good tbh. Damage is already high enough, I think I only need more tankiness.

Hey…welcome to the captains fan club…

Quick one, how are you dealing with single target damage? or are you just building for Arena waves (perfectly fine if thats your goal)?

ah ok thanks for lettign us know. im using smite its a huge boost +50% really fells good. i still need to work on the tankiness, resistances not capped

@vapourfire I don’t think the build has that much trouble with single target damage, at least with the setup I’am running. I have a lot of armor shred from idols, and a chest with + 1XX% shred effects, that works well for me. Also I’am lucky and have mostly good stuff :). I use the same build for monolith farming and arena since I only started trying arena like a three days ago :p.

@stefthedude I’am also using smite. The main “big” difference I see between your old guide and what I do now, is that I’am using one Keen Idol for Smite proc. I then spec into Smite but I don’t put it on my spellbar, I only rely on the proc to get the atk speed buff. That way it frees me a slot for a utility spell like Shield Rush, Lunge or whatever.

Did a few passive and skill respec yesterday to increase tankiness (I’am capped all resist apart from a few points in physical so needed to find other sources of mitigation), will see how it goes when I get the time for more Arena runs !

Is this from the recent 7.10 changes? Quite a few people are saying its pretty good as it doesnt have a cap (max 20 stacks but the % increase has no cap). I may have to try that as I have none right now.

Like the idea of Smite not on your skillbar in favour of another that you dont specialise in but can use… may have to try that one day.

Resist shred has a cap of 20 stacks, armour shred has no cap (since it’s a flat -100 armour).

Thanks for the clarity

Update. Just completed lvl90 MoF character level 84 - Harton was truly insipid after struggling with Lagon at Lvl80.

Changes to the build based on everyones input and trail and error:

  • Dropped all Void Knight passives in favour of more Paladin passives - initially this meant less damage but Prayer & Holy Precision counter this quickly and you are generally more tanky once you have swapped things around a little more.
  • Dropped Shield Bash - As much as I liked the “idea” of shield bash with shield throw, I have found that there are better defence & more damage elsewhere.
  • Smite Idol - must be at 10% chance, else it doesnt proc enough to be worthwhile imho.
  • Stun on Throwing works very well as it gives you a second of additional attack time and with the throwing attack speed, this makes a big difference in clearing.
  • Addtitional 20 Fire Damage on Throwing is ok, but 40 seems to be the sweet spot for my particular setup.
  • Something with Adaptive Spell Damage seems to be the ideal weapon choice for my build. It beats out Elemental damage of the sceptre for my skill node choices (Fire throwing). So a Wand & Shield Combination work best for me.
  • Imho, Frailty on hit is better than throwing Attack Speed. I swapped 15% attack speed for 30% Frailty on hit and it was very obvious in play.
  • Shock on hit, is a hidden gem. Got it by chance as the “other affix” on an otherwise ideal item. EDITED (not elemental damage increase but stun) EDITED. It looks like it maxes out stun chance due to fast attack speed & ricochets - seems to make a noticeable difference in play.
  • Eruption is unfortunately not great. It is great with clearing groups but it is so bad when you cannot ricochet that its virtually useless against bosses… And richochets of RoS are just not worth it and dont work in certain situations against stronger single targets (Lagon, Harton mostly, even Siege Golems) etc. Its worth taking for the proc to help clear mobs, but points are best spent elsewhere.

Off to lvl 100…

If you’re seeing higher damage due to shock, that’s a bug since it only reduces lightning resist, not all elemental resists. Though it would help with stun.

Hmm… Will have to look at this… was looking at the old info on the wiki to try and figure it why it was making a difference and I saw Shock - Official Last Epoch Wiki the elemental so I assumed that was the reason… But I see Tunks pages show stun and lightning…

I already have 140% stun chance on throwing so would the additional 10% per stack be so noticeable? With the 85%+ throwing attack speed and ricochets maybe I am just stacking it up very fast and thats what I am seeing?
